Eat Local Month

September is Eat Local Month at Sustainable Connections! They’ve taken this month to highlight the variety of farms, fisheries, restaurants, markets, and food producers that make the fresh, local food we get to enjoy.
Look for the Eat Local First window decal at participating restaurants, markets, and retailers to know that business is dedicated to sourcing food grown, raised, caught, or made in Washington State.

Allied Arts – “Caregivers”

The Allied Arts of Whatcom County invites you to view their September exhibition – “Caregivers.”
The exhibition will be on view from September 4th through 26th at the gallery on Cornwall Avenue in Bellingham. “Caregivers” brings together the work of Francie Allen, Margot Clemens, and Ann Chaikin in an exhibition exploring relationships, memory, and the human experience of caring for others. Installed across Allied Arts’ new multi-use room and Artist Alley, there are five life-size sculptures by Francie Allen alongside paintings by Margot Clemens and Ann Chaikin. It’s an amazing display of connection, vulnerability, change, and the ways we support each other.
There will be an opening reception on Friday, September 4th from 6:00pm-9:00pm.
Allied Arts Gallery Hours are Wednesday-Saturday from 11:00am-4:00pm.
Weekly Mountain Bike Ride

Various Trails
Shifting Gears hosts a weekly mountain bike ride for women that want to explore the trails of Galbraith Mountain every Monday from 5:30pm-7:30pm.
Rides are open to various experience and skill levels for all women (cis, queer, trans) that are 18 and older, regardless of riding experience, body size, and biking anxiety. There’s a maximum of 8 riders plus two Shifting Gears leaders in each group, so the focus is on having fun and supporting each other.
Rides are available in different skill levels, so be sure to check out the website for more information and to register for the ride you want to be on.

You can support local farms, small businesses, and makers as they sell their fresh produce and handmade goods in a fun, community atmosphere.
Fix-It Fair

Fix-It Fair Bellingham invites you to this month’s Fix-It Fair event on Saturday, September 26th from 12pm-3pm at it’s NEW LOCATION – Kulshan K2 on Kentucky Street in Bellingham!
If you have something that needs to be fixed…BRING IT! The volunteers will help you fix it for FREE!
Some of the items they’ll help you with include:
-Clothes Mending (patches, button fixes, pocket holes, etc.)
-Small Appliance Repair
-Knife Sharpening (please limit to 2 items per person)
-Bike Repair (brake checks and basic service)
-Jewelry Repair
-Small Appliance Repair (anything you can carry that is NOT gas-powered)
-Shoe Polishing
This is a FREE event run by volunteers. All repairs are FREE or by donation.

Skagit Farm to Pint Fest

The Port of Skagit presents Skagit Farm to Pint Fest on Saturday, September 26th from 1:00pm-5:30pm at the La Conner Marina!
It’s a showcase of local beer, bites, and bands! You’ll be able to some of Skagit’s craft breweries that pair with a bite from a local Skagit Valley Restaurant. Your ticket will include 10 pairings.
Plus, there will be LIVE music from Band of Eden, one of the PNW’s most popular rock/blues/pop bands…fronted by the powerhouse vocals of Savanna Woods.
Additionally, VIP tickets are available and provide exclusive access to the Marina rooftop deck with amazing views (as well as early entry to the event).
¡Piñatas! at the Lynden Library

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Everson Library on Saturday, September 26th from 2:00pm-4:00pm.
You’ll have a chance to decorate your piñatas and learn about their history and cultural significance. You can do your own…or make one with friends and family. At the end of the program, everyone will break a piñatas together!
NOTES:
Space is limited; registration is required. You can register as an individual or a group. Please indicate the size of your group when you register.
We expect one piñata to take about 90 minutes to complete. It will require hand-eye coordination, scissors, and glue. Recommended for ages 5 and up. Children (ages 12 and under) must be accompanied by an adult who will assist with the project.
This program will be conducted in English and Spanish. Call (360) 305-3638 for help in Spanish.
Live Like Carmen Hoedown

The Carmen Denson Foundation presents the Live Like Carmen Hoedown on Saturday, September 26th from 3pm-10pm at Novella Venue on W. Wiser Lake Road in Ferndale!
It’s an evening of country fun with LIVE music by Whiplash Rodeo, line dancing lessons, a Cornhole tournament, food trucks, bar service, live and silent auction items, games, DJ Troy, and more.
This fundraiser benefits the Carmen Denson Foundation scholarship program, which provides high school students with scholarship opportunities, and honors Carmen and her tremendous impact on family, friends, and the countless people she helped in her career in lending.
Tickets are $55. Ages 18 and over.
