The San Juan Island Artists’ Studio Tour is a free self-guided tour from 10am-5pm on June 6th & 7th. Hundreds of people attend this free event every year!
With a mixture of prints, paintings, ceramics, glass, jewelry, photography, sculpture, and fiber, the professional artists open their doors and welcome the public to see where art is created and explain their processes. This is a chance to purchase art at the source, often before the art is shown in national art shows and galleries. Visitors will gain a greater knowledge and clearer understanding of both the artist and their media. The tour is a free event of art, guest musicians, lovely gardens, and a raffle for art at each studio. Maps and brochures are available at www.sanjuanislandartists.com and at many businesses in Friday Harbor.

A curse, a kiss, and magic! John Bishop’s production of The Sleeping Beauty, set to the magnificent Tchaikovsky score and true to the choreography of Marius Petipa, sets the stage magnificently for Northwest Ballet Theater’s 16th season finale. One of the most loved ballets of all time, Bishop’s choreographic enhancements deliver a very personal, magical touch. The result is a fresh and fiery fairy tale replete with stunning scenery and spectacular costumes sure to wow both children and adults alike. Formed in 1999 by Artistic Director John Bishop, NBT has established itself as one of Washington’s leading ballet troupes by building a regional reputation for delivering performances of outstanding quality and depth.
NBT will present this re-imagined work June 6th (7:30pm) and 7th (2pm) at the Mt. Baker Theatre in Bellingham, and June 13th, at McIntyre Hall in Mount Vernon. Julie Heffner will make her debut as Aurora and will be gallantly partnered by John Bishop, who will dance the role of Prince Florimund. Delci Syvertson, who has danced several dramatic roles for NBT recently, will dance the role of Maleficent, the evil witch who curses Aurora and her parents’ kingdom to a 100-year sleep. Other prominent performers include Chloe Johnston (Lilac Fairy), Hailey Forsberg (Diamond Fairy & Princess Florine), Henry Winslow (Bluebird) and Emily DesChane, Sion Calabretta, Anna Rombold, Abbey Monson, Sophia Kongshaug, Kaarina Martilla, Ona Underwood and Annie Uribe as soloist fairies. Julia Schwartz and Alena Russell will perform the Puss and Boots duet and Joanna Pederson, Ally Rose and Kari Thordarson dance a fairy pas de trois.
