A ‘Sweet Sounds’ Dessert Auction to benefit the Squalicum High School Band program is Friday, March 4th from 7pm-9pm. Enjoy listening to the music of the Squalicum High School Band program while bidding on quality desserts.  Tickets will be $10 at the door and there will be an opportunity to enter a drawing for some great door prizes. Funds raised from this event help support a variety of musical needs in the program including instrument repair, guest instructions, field trips and more.

The Service Corps of Retired Executives (“SCORE”) is conducting a workshop, “Writing a Business Plan,” Saturday March 5th at Whatcom Community College.

Learn how to create a “living document” to keep your business moving forward.
This workshop includes, such important topics, as: market strategy, market research and constructing financial statements, all, essential components of a strong business plan.

Jazz Celebration VIII

The annual concert that celebrates the jazz music and musicians of Whatcom County is back in the Old Whatcom Museum Rotunda Room. Bands of musicians will gather to perform the music of composer/musician Robert (Bob) Storms.

Jazz Celebration VIII features Ragtime, Dixieland, Swing, Latin and other forms of jazz music in each presentation, all from Bob’s collection.  Local musicians from the county’s past (Music Makers lunch bunch) and the local youth jazz programs are the focus. Pros perform in the first hour and amateurs in the second. Come early (6 pm), seating is limited and the concert is free this year. Donations will be accepted and all can be claimed for tax purposes. All donations go to the county jazz programs for youth.

Ferndale Spring Run Off

The Ferndale Spring Run Off is Saturday, March 19th at 9am (registration starts at 8am). Choose from two courses—a 5K or a 10K–each course is split up with stops at local parks along the course. Each park features a fitness establishment who has a brief exercise set up for participants. This is not a race, just a way to get out in the fresh, Spring air and have some fun! There will be food and drawings at the end of the run. So dress up as a flower, bumble bee or dress in Spring colors and come exercise with us! Feel free to bring your pets too, as this is an outdoor event!

$15 if pre-registered before March 11th; $20 if registering after March 11th or day of race. *Children under 5 are also free, but will not receive a t-shirt.
March 21 is National & World Down Syndrome Day, therefore part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Down syndrome Outreach of The Arc of Whatcom County.


Commercial Street Night Market

The Downtown Bellingham Partnership has announced the first Commercial Street Night Market of 2016 will be Friday, March 25th. The wildly successful Night Markets began September 2015 and ran for 5 consecutive Fridays on the 1300 block of Commercial Street. In 2016, the location will stay the same, but the Night Markets will be held seasonally.

Night Markets will occur in March, June, September, and December, with dates being released later. Interested vendors can visit the Night Market webpage and download the application.

Your Mission…should you choose to accept it…is to taste and vote for the best dishes in all of the following four categories: Appetizer, Entrée, Soup/Chowder, and Dessert. There will be live music, beverages, and wine to purchase by the glass. It’s a night of dangerously tasty food for a great cause!
