Repurpose Old Books into Art! Workshop

Transform a discarded book into a creative, themed work of art, using a variety of materials and techniques at The Foundry on June 10th! In this hands-on workshop, you will learn to reuse old books and make them into art and journals, using many techniques to add texture and design. You will get to take home your very own altered book to continue to work on and use at the end of the class.

Supplies to bring: one or two black and white photocopied images of your choice to be put into a book. Also, you can bring a hardcover book to reuse or choose one from Rachel’s collection. All other supplies will be provided. Cost is $35


Ballet Bellingham Presents: The Wizard of Oz

See Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Lion come to life in an original ballet performance of The Wizard of Oz featuring the dancers of Ballet Bellingham.

Join Dorothy on her journey from her small Kansas farm to the Emerald City, where the friends and foes she encounters along the way teach her that quick wits, compassion, and courage—and just a touch of magic—are inside us all. This two-act ballet, with original choreography by Ballet Bellingham Artistic Director Jessica Crook, will be a treat for viewers of all ages. Ballet Bellingham students as young as three years old perform as adorable munchkins making this one show you will not want to miss!

Sofia Milstead Memorial Run

The Sofia Milstead Memorial Run is Saturday, June 18th at Lynden High School. Sofia Milstead was a 2015 graduate of Lynden High School who passed away in a car accident on July 30, 2015. While at Lynden, Sofia played soccer, ran track and was a basketball cheerleader. She was also active in the Lynden FFA, ASB and Young Life. Sofia was known for her competitive drive, loyal nature and beautiful smile. She was full of life and made friends everywhere she went. It is the goal of the Sofia Milstead Foundation to establish a legacy in Sofia’s name that will help young people achieve their goals. All proceeds from the run will go to help provide annual LHS and young life scholarships in her name.

Registration pick up at 8am.  The 10k starts at 9am ($35 adult, $25 youth), the 5k run/walk starts at 9:15am ($25 adult, $15 youth). Registration includes race shirt! Post race awards and raffle begin at 11am. Online registration can be found at, search ‘The Sofia Milstead Memorial Run.’

Mark your calendars for big fun on Saturday, June 18th, when Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth presents the “Best of BAAY!” — a celebration of ten years of great children’s theater! Part birthday party, part fundraiser, part farewell and send-off, this family friendly event will feature food, beer, wine, and cider for sale, some fun fund-raising activities, and, most importantly, one-time-only encore performances of some of BAAY’s best-loved numbers from a decade of memorable shows. The evening will include a tribute and fond farewell to David Post, BAAY’s founder and executive director, who will be handing over the reins to a new generation of leadership this summer. Additionally, the program will acknowledge the ongoing contributions of choreographer Lisa Markowitz, music director Steve Barnes, and the dedicated support staff who make up the terrific team at BAAY.

Doors open at 5:00 PM, show from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at The Majestic in downtown Bellingham. Suggested donation at the door. Proceeds from beer and wine sales, activities, and any free-will donations go to support the BAAY Scholarship Fund, program development, and facilities improvements.
