Whatcom Humane Society’s Movie Under the Stars on Friday, July 25th is the classic “Best in Show.” Gates open at 7:30, movie starts at dusk. Enjoy refreshments from The North Fork Brewery Beer Garden, Diego’s Mexican Grill, Street Dogz and Excellent Kettle Corn. Bring your own blanket and chairs. No dogs, please! $5 p/p suggested donation.

Tour de Whatcom is a charity bike ride that highlights all the natural beauty of Whatcom County. This year’s main beneficiary is Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition with other charity groups manning the rest stops. A rider of any experience can enjoy the fun on a 22 mile course, 44 mile course, or 105 mile course, whatever best suits their needs. Each rest stop has food, music, and lots of fun! This years theme is Tour de France!

Agape Home Walk & 5K

The 4th annual Susan Sutton Agape Walk and 5k is Saturday, August 2nd at Lake Padden Park in Bellingham. Named after Susan Sutton, a former Lighthouse Mission employee of 27 years, the proceeds of the run will go to support the Agape Home of Lighthouse Mission Ministries which houses women and their children in need.

Registration for the event comes with a t-shirt, refreshments after the race, and a chance to win prizes donated my local businesses such as Fairhaven Runners & Walkers, Bellewood Acres, Goat Mountain Pizza, The Woods Coffee, and Otion: The Soap Bar. Register online!

and August 16th & 17th from 12pm-6pm.

State Parks offers ‘free days!’

Washington State Parks has announced the list of ‘free days’ for 2014. The “free days” are in keeping with legislation that created the Discover Pass, a $30 annual or $10 one-day permit required on state-managed recreation lands managed by Washington State Parks, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Department of Natural Resources. The remaining 2014 State Parks free days include:

• August 25th            National Park Service birthday
• September 27th     National Public Lands Day
• November 11th      Veterans Day
