Run 31, Day 8: Run for Pam

Pam found out last week.

A second mammogram, an ultrasound, and then the radiologist told her she has breast cancer. Her biopsy is this week.

This isn’t her first time. Twelve years ago she went through this, and her doctors tell her this is a different cancer than that one was.

“I was expecting this. I am so good. It’s caught early — because I get my mammograms.”

— Pam

She’s the one who got the news. And she’s the one reassuring the rest of us.

Why she wanted her story told

When we asked if we could share this, Pam said yes right away. Not for sympathy — here’s exactly why, in her words:

“It’s just so important that the women of our community go get their mammograms. If you catch it early, it is curable. That’s why you get a mammogram every year. I hope that it encourages someone to go get a mammogram.”

She got hers. Every year. That’s the only reason she’s able to say “I am so good” right now instead of something much harder.

Hear today’s dedication

Do what Pam did

Get your mammogram. Every year. It is the single most useful thing on this list, and Pam is the proof.

On Friday, October 30, Mt. Baker Imaging’s Women’s Diagnostic Center on Northwest Ave takes walk-ins for screening mammograms — no appointment needed. Patrice will be broadcasting live from 11am to 1pm. If you’ve been putting it off, that’s your day.

Pam, we moved a mile for you today. This whole community is pulling for you.

Miss one?

Every dedication lands on our Feel Good Moment page.

Come move a mile with us

We’re going all month. Run it, walk it, crawl it — treadmill, trail, a lap around the block with the dog. Any pace, any time of day. One mile is one mile, and it’s never too late to start.

Log your miles in the Run 31 Strava group, share them with #KAFERuns31, or text a photo to 360.676.5233. We love seeing them.

Run for them. Get screened for you.
