Day 5 belonged to Anne, and her story is the whole reason we’re doing this.
Anne has been cancer free for four years. When she was diagnosed, she had three tumors, bilaterally, of two different types of cancer. Caught early. Here’s how she put it to us:
“I have been cancer free for 4 years and an example of if it’s caught early. My case is the reason for early detection.”
Read that again. Three tumors. Two different cancers. Four years cancer free. That’s not luck — that’s a screening that happened in time.
Anne also told us she wished she could walk a mile with us, but she’s waiting on hip replacement surgery. So she said, “maybe you will do it again next year.” Anne, we walked yours for you this time. And yes — we’d love to see you out there next year.

If you’ve been putting off your mammogram
This is your sign. Anne’s cancer was found early, and four years later she’s here telling us about it. Early detection is the single biggest thing in your control.
On Friday, October 30, Mt. Baker Imaging’s Women’s Diagnostic Center takes walk-ins for screening mammograms — no appointment needed — and Patrice will be broadcasting live from 11am to 1pm. Mark the date.
Miss one?
Every dedication lands on our In Case You Missed It page, so you can catch up on any day you missed.
Come move a mile with us
We’re going all month. Run it, walk it, crawl it — treadmill, trail, a lap around the block with the dog. Any pace, any time of day. One mile is one mile, and it’s never too late to start.
Log your miles with the rest of us in the Run 31 Strava group, share them with #KAFERuns31, or text a photo to 360.676.5233. We love seeing them.
Run for them. Get screened for you.
