WWU Vikings News

A standout player on Western’s women’s soccer team is getting nationwide attention.

Freshman forward Madeline Mays has been named the D-II National Player of the Week for last week’s performance.

The Oak Harbor native scored five of the team’s six goals during a pair of wins over Montana State Billings and 23rd nationally-ranked Seattle Pacific. She recorded the game-winning goal in both games, including a hat trick against Billings.

Western returned to the national rankings after the pair of wins, now coming in at No. 17 in the coach’s poll.

They’re back on the road this week with a match at Western Oregon tomorrow afternoon before heading to Lacey to face Saint Martin’s on Saturday.
