BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Changes could be on the horizon for bus service around Western Washington University.

Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) is seeking public feedback for its proposal to update routes serving the university near south Bellingham and Fairhaven.

WTA says it’s struggled to adjust its current service to major spikes in crowds due to Western’s synchronized class start times.

In an effort to keep bus arrivals on time and limit overcrowding, WTA spent over a year planning out how to make travel more efficient around Western’s campus.

The proposed changes include cutting four of its routes, making more shuttle trips through campus during peak travel times, and having shorter wait times at its three central transfer points near Western.

If approved, they would take effect next summer.
