BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – More resources to fight the opioid crisis are coming to the community, courtesy of the Whatcom County Library System (WCLS).
WCLS announced Friday that they’re partnering with the state Department of Health to offer free naloxone kits. The kits will be available at the library’s 10 branch locations throughout Whatcom County.
Director of Whatcom County Health and Community Services Erika Lautenbach says the resources will get more overdose treatment to rural areas, which have less access to traditional healthcare clinics. Supplies of the nasal spray medication are limited but will be refilled from time to time.
Naloxone, also known by its brand name Narcan, is a fast-acting medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. A bill in Olympia that would require all public schools to have at least one dose of Narcan on hand passed the House on Tuesday.
