BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Whatcom County Jail inmate is facing more charges after being caught with drugs – twice.

Court documents state that Corrections Deputies were conducting a cell shakedown on March 26 following the overdose death of an inmate the week prior. One of the deputies recovered a white powdered rock from the inmate’s shirt pocket during the search.

The inmate, 42-year-old Daniel Bock, told the deputy that he brought the suspected fentanyl rock into jail because he was trying to avoid withdrawals.

Bock was booked into the jail on March 22 on identity and material theft charges. He admitted to taking drugs nearly the entire time he had been in custody.

A week later, an officer was notified that Bock had gotten sick in his cell. Bock again admitted he had consumed suspected fentanyl that he had brought into the jail. The officer located the rest of the drugs in Bock’s bed.

Bock was transferred to US Marshal custody Wednesday, as he is also facing a separate undisclosed federal charge.
