WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Whatcom County’s bus routes may be getting an overhaul, and the Whatcom Transportation Authority wants your input.

The Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) has proposed a number service changes in order to increase its reach in key areas outside the downtown Bellingham area and increase efficiency. While some routes will be altered, the WTA plans to maintain existing routes where practical.

Among the routes with proposed increased service are the Lummi Nation, the waterfront, PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, Bellingham Technical College, Bellingham International Airport and the King Mountain neighborhood.

Some areas may see elimination of some service, like the Birch Bay/Blaine route and a streamlining of a few routes to Cornwall Park area and Meridian.

If approved, the updates in routes will take effect in June 2025.

Earlier this year, a long-awaited route taking riders to Bellingham’s waterfront was approved, and the routes began taking passengers to the Granary Building, the Container Village and Squalicum Harbor last month.

WTA will have a table at the SeaFeast festival on Bellingham’s Squalicum Harbor to talk about the changes in person.

More information on the routes, along with a space to share your thoughts on the proposed changes, can be found here.
