Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office seeks information in cyclist’s death near Lake Samish

LAKE SAMISH, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Law enforcement is asking for the public’s help after a bicyclist was injured near Lake Samish and later died.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office said deputies received a report of an injured and unconscious cyclist near North Lake Samish Drive and Prescott Lane around 1:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 11.

The rider was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, where they died from their injuries. CSI and traffic unit deputies followed up to investigate and analyze the scene.

None of the suspected circumstances leading to the cyclist’s death have been disclosed by the Sheriff’s Office. The identity of the deceased cyclist has also not been disclosed.

Security footage from nearby businesses shows another bicyclist wearing a red cycling shirt and helmet riding in the same direction just seconds before the victim.

The sheriff’s office is trying to identify and speak with that second cyclist for their investigation.
