LUMMI ISLAND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Lummi Island ferry will be running on limited service for the next few weeks.

The Whatcom Chief is leaving for its annual dry dock outage on Saturday, Sept. 12. It’s expected to return to service on Sunday, Oct. 4, but that could change depending on the scale of repairs.

During that time, there will pedestrian-only ferry service between Lummi Island and Gooseberry Point.

Whatcom County Public Works says Friday, Sept. 11, is the last day for Lummi Island residents to move a car to the mainland.

Service will be interrupted on Saturday morning during the dry dock switchover before the passenger ferry begins making trips around noon. The ferry will also be out of service on Sunday until mid-afternoon while gangways are installed at both terminals.

The annual dry dock outage usually takes place in the spring, but was postponed earlier this year because the county’s original contractor wasn’t able to meet the project schedule.

Anyone with questions about the dry dock process is asked to contact the Ferry Division at 360-778-6200.
