FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A voluntary evacuation notice has been issued for residents in Ferndale.

The City of Ferndale is urging residents in low-lying areas to get their go bags ready and prepare to leave for higher ground.

That includes area south of Main Street between 4th Avenue and the Nooksack River, the Whatcom Transportation Authority Ferndale Station Facility, the Ferndale Food Bank, and areas south of Washington Street and east of 2nd Avenue.

All schools in the Ferndale School District will be closed tomorrow.

The Nooksack River is expected to crest at just over 23 ft., which puts it slightly over major flood stage levels.
