WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Officials in Whatcom County are sounding the alarm over a salmonella outbreak.

So far in Whatcom, only three cases have been tied to Evergreen Fresh Broccoli Sprouts from Idaho.

The product is sold in grocery stores and served at restaurants locally, though county health officials do not know which businesses carry the product.

Whatcom County Health and Community Services wants those sickened after eating the sprouts to contact them at 360-778-6000 or use the Foodborne Illness Notification System form to let them know.

If you test positive for salmonella, please report the case to the county’s nurse on duty at 360-778-6089.

A total of 13 cases of illness in Washington across seven counties have been reported with onset of symptoms beginning as early as July 7. Only two of those have been hospitalized.

County health officials add this outbreak is different from the foodborne illness outbreak linked to alfalfa sprouts across multiple states.
