The Mariners are looking to regain control of the AL West tonight as they start their series against the Los Angeles Angels.

The M’s lost two of three games to the Astros over the weekend, leaving the two teams tied for first-place in the division after the dust settled.

Seattle’s bats couldn’t get going in the first two, losing 3-0 and 4-2 to Houston.

But Jorge Polanco and Cal Raleigh each homered yesterday to lead a revived Mariners offense to a 6-4 win.

Julio Rodriguez left the game in the sixth inning after he caught his right ankle in the center field fence pad while trying to make a catch.

Scott Servais says initial X-rays were negative and that Julio is considered day-to-day at this point.

The struggling Mariners have lost five of their last six games, with three of those losses coming to the LA Angels.

They’ll look to get revenge with Bryce Miller on the mound in tonight’s series opener.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

The Mariners placed first baseman Ty France on outright waivers yesterday.

The former All-Star has struggled over the past two months, hitting .159 with a single homer since June 1.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that 23-year-old rookie Tyler Locklear will get full-time at bats at first in his place.

If France goes unclaimed, he can refuse an assignment to the minor leagues and choose to become a free agent either immediately, or at the end of the season.

Former Mariner Adrian Beltre was one of four new members inducted into the Hall of Fame yesterday.

Beltre spent five of his 21 seasons with Seattle, where he hit .266 with 103 home runs and won two Gold Gloves.

He was joined by Twins catcher Joe Mauer, Rockies first baseman Todd Helton and longtime manager Jim Leyland as the newest inductees into Cooperstown.

The Mariners could add a pair of former stars to the Hall of Fame next year too.

Ichiro Suzuki and Felix Hernandez will both be on the ballot for 2025.

The Sounders had their win streak come to a halt over the weekend in a 3-0 loss to LAFC.

LA continued their string of dominance over Seattle with the win; they haven’t lost over their last eight matches.

The Sounders had previously won their last six matches and were unbeaten in its last eight.

They now fall to 10-8-7 on the season ahead of Friday’s match against Minnesota United.

Team USA struggled in Saturday’s WNBA All-Star Game.

The Olympians fell to Team WNBA 117-109

Seattle Storm standout Jewell Loyd was held scoreless in the loss, while her teammate Nneka Ogwumike added 14 points to the winning effort for the All-Stars.

Team USA will begin their journey to gold this Sunday against Japan.

The US men’s team plays their first game of the group phase against Serbia on Saturday.

The Bellingham Bells lost a tight weekend series to Port Angeles.

The Lefties edged the Bells out 1-0 yesterday after they split the first two games on Friday and Saturday.

Both teams combined for just seven hits in yesterday’s contest, with Port Angeles scoring their sole run off a fielder’s choice.

Bellingham gathered 10 walks, but couldn’t capitalize in the shutout loss.

The Bells now own a 6-6 record in the second half of the season, good for fourth place in the North Division.

They’ll look to improve their positioning tomorrow in their series opener against the Kelowna Falcons for Cascade Radio Group night.
