The American League rallied from a three-run deficit to beat the National League 5-3 in last night’s MLB All-Star Game.
Dodgers sensation Shohei Ohtani hit a 3-run homer to give the NL the lead in the third inning, but the AL immediately responded with three runs of its own.
Red Sox center fielder Jarren Duran broke the tie with a 2-run shot in the fifth that proved to be the game-winning score and earned him All-Star MVP honors.
Neither Mariners All-Star between Andres Munoz and Logan Gilbert made an appearance in the win.
The American League now retakes the crown after having their nine-year win streak ended last year in Seattle.
Meanwhile, Bellingham is gearing up for a Midsummer Classic of its own tonight.
The Bells are hosting this year’s West Coast League All-Star Game right here at Joe Martin Field.
Today’s festivities include a pre-game fan festival, pro style skills showcase from 4-5:30 and post-game fireworks.
50 All-Stars from around the league will be present, including seven from the Bells.
Gates open at 3:00 and first pitch for the All-Star Game is at 6:35.
The game will also be broadcast live on the MLB Network.
Mt. Vernon High School’s Xavier Neyenes put on a show in the High School Home Run Derby last weekend.
He hit 17 HR’s between rounds one and two of Saturday’s derby to place fourth out of the eight contestants.
Neyenes just missed out on advancing further, with the top two having moved on to face off in the MLB HR Derby.
He could have another chance next year, as he’s going into his senior season at Mt. Vernon.
And the Seattle Storm edged the Los Angeles Sparks 89-83 yesterday to close out the first half of the WNBA season.
Jewell Loyd and Nneka Ogwumike combined to score 20 of the Storm’s 25 fourth-quarter points on the way to their third straight win.
Loyd scored a game-high 30 points for Seattle, which is now tied with Minnesota for first-place in the Western Conference with a 17-8 record.
The Storm closed out the first half of the season strong by winning eight of their last 10 games.
Meanwhile, the struggling Sparks have lost 11 of their last 13 games.
The Storm are now off until the season starts back up on August 16.
