BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Strong winds and heavy mountain snow are prompting weather alerts across the region.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Wednesday, Dec. 24 for the lowlands of western Whatcom and Skagit counties.

Southeast winds could reach 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

On Tuesday, Dec. 23 we’ll continue to see wet and windy weather, with possible coastal flooding predicted along the coast of the northern Salish Sea.

Snow could still fall lower in the mountains than we’ve seen this year so far, with expected snowfall as low as 1,500 ft elevation.

Meanwhile, the Mount Baker Ski Area got 13 inches of new snow on Monday, Dec. 22 and now has a base of 62 inches at Heather Meadows and 103 inches at the top of Pan Dome.
