Four people hospitalized after crash on Chuckanut Drive

BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A road race on Chuckanut Drive ended with four people hospitalized and a racer sent to jail.

Bellingham Police say that the racing driver was moving north at 60 mph when their vehicle crossed the center line on the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 7.

The driver slammed into a car traveling southbound head-on. All four people involved in the crash, including two children, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Chuckanut Drive was closed for about two hours while crews cleared the crash.

The racing driver, identified as 19-year-old Colin Gomez, was later taken into custody on vehicular assault and reckless driving charges.
