Seattle man sentenced to eight years for connection to Whatcom County drug ring

SEATTLE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Seattle man has been sentenced for his role in a fentanyl ring that operated in Whatcom County.

Acting U.S. Attorney Teal Luthy Miller says that 35-year-old Mohamed Abdirisak Mohamed will spend the next eight years behind bars. He was caught twice with firearms and thousands of fentanyl pills during traffic stops in 2022 and 2023.

Investigators with the Whatcom Gang and Drug Task Force determined that Mohamed and five others were moving large amounts of fentanyl from Seattle to Whatcom County.

A majority of their narcotics were distributed within the Lummi Nation.

In one instance, Lummi Nation Police responded to a double overdose at a mini mart involving one of the ring’s distributors and a customer.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that three Bellingham residents involved in the ring have been sentenced.

A 42-year-old Burien man is the last person connected to the ring that still hasn’t been taken into custody.
