SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Anglers will soon be able to get a chance at landing some salmon in Skagit County this summer.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced on Wednesday, May 22 that areas of the Skagit and Cascade Rivers are opening for Chinook salmon fishing for the summer months.

The Skagit River has reopened from the Memorial Highway Bridge in Mount Vernon to Gilligan Creek until May 31 after a temporary closure last week. It has a daily limit of two hatchery Chinook with a 12-inch minimum.

The Skagit River will also open from the Highway 530 Bridge at Rockport to Marblemount Bridge from next Wednesday, May 29, through July 15.

That area has a daily limit of four hatchery Chinook, including no more than two adults, with a 12-inch minimum.

The Cascade River will open from its mouth to the Rockport-Cascade Road Bridge next Wednesday, May 29, through July 15. It will only be open Wednesdays through Saturdays.

There is a daily limit of four hatchery Chinook, including no more than two adults, with a 12-inch minimum.

The news comes a day after Fish and Wildlife announced that fishing on the Nooksack River will be prohibited for most of the summer, with the exception of Indigenous fishers with a permit.
