Ron Judd fired as executive editor of Cascadia Daily News

BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The head of a major Whatcom County news outlet has been ousted.

Cascadia Daily News (CDN) announced that its owner David Syre fired executive editor Ron Judd on Tuesday, May 27.

According to CDN, the company parted ways with Judd because of differences over the publication’s new quarterly magazine called Cascadia Daily Life.

Judd had been the executive editor at the publication since it launched in 2022. A member of their newsroom was quoted in CDN’s own story calling the firing “shocking and sudden” and saying the newsroom is “on edge.”

The publication says its managing editors will take over Judd’s duties while it searches for a permanent replacement.

Judd said in a statement on social media that the move came in light of “irreconcilable differences with ownership” before praising CDN’s news team. Prior to working at CDN, he spent over three decades at the Seattle Times and has taught for more than a dozen years at Western Washington University.

Judd has not responded to My Bellingham Now for comment.
