WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Workers in Whatcom County made more than the national average last year, but just less than our neighbors down south.

According to new data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average hourly wage in the Bellingham metropolitan statistical area, which includes Whatcom County, was $34.29 in May 2025.

That was about 75 cents higher than the national average, but 23 cents lower than in the Mount Vernon metro area.

The highest-paid professions in Whatcom County were led by management and healthcare practitioners/technical staff, followed by computer and math-related jobs. The lowest-paid fields included building and grounds maintenance, food service and healthcare support.

Office and administrative support workers made up the largest share of local jobs, followed by food service and sales-related positions.

The report also found that construction accounts for a larger share of jobs in Whatcom County than it does nationwide.
