BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Listeria contamination found in a Costco ready-made food product spurred a recall in our state and others.

On Thursday, Sept. 18, Western United recalled Kirkland’s Fresh Ahi Wasabi Poke sold at the bulk warehouse chain due to potential Listeria contamination of the green onions in the item.

Listeria can cause a serious food-borne illness that can be deadly, infecting about 1,600 people yearly and killing roughly 260.

Groups with higher risk to listeriosis include pregnant women, and elderly and immunocompromised people.

Annasea Foods Group say that those that purchased the item should dispose of it immediately and call Costco for a full refund.
