Mariners News

The Mariners capped off their Midwest road trip with a bang this afternoon.

They topped the Minnesota Twins 5-3 to take home the series win.

Cole Young hit an RBI double to tie the game in the seventh inning before knocking in a pair of runs with a go-ahead single in the ninth. It put the finishing touches on a monster road trip for the 22-year-old second baseman that saw him go 11-22 at the plate.

JP Crawford added his second homer of the season and George Kirby gave up two runs through five and two-thirds innings in the win.

The M’s finished their road trip winning five of six games against the Twins and Cardinals. They’ve now evened up their record to 16-16 and sit just half a game behind the Athletics for first place in the American League West.

The Mariners have the day off tomorrow before kicking off a six-game homestand against the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.

Meanwhile, a former top prospect for the Mariners is making his return to the big leagues.

The Chicago White Sox promoted outfielder Jared Kelenic after putting their starting outfielder on the injured list. Kelenic shook off a slow start to the season and recently hit four home runs in four days with the White Sox’s Triple-A affiliate.

He was once thought to be a cornerstone of the Mariners franchise after they picked him in the first round of the 2018 draft, but has since struggled in limited opportunities with other MLB teams.

College Basketball News

The top basketball recruit in the country who hails from Washington has made his decision for college.

Rainier Beach senior Tyran Stokes announced yesterday that he’ll attend Kansas next season.

Stokes, who’s an early favorite for the top pick in the 2027 NBA draft, chose the Jayhawks over Kentucky and Oregon. The 6-foot-7 forward is coming off a season where he led Rainier Beach to the 3A state championship, while dropping a school-record 63 points on his senior night.

Stokes is the second five-star commitment for Bill Self and the Jayhawks in the 2026 class, joining point guard Taylen Kinney,

Sonics News

Sonics fans will have to wait a bit longer for a final decision on the team’s return.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Monday that he doesn’t think owners will make a final decision on expansion by the time the league holds its summer meetings. But he reiterated that the decision is expected to be made by the end of the year.

It comes after league owners voted last month to formally explore expansion bids and potential owners for Seattle and Las Vegas.

Bloomberg recently reported that there’s been much outreach from investors for the teams, but no formal bids have been submitted yet.

NBA Playoffs News

The Trail Blazers have been eliminated from the NBA playoffs.

Portland fell to the San Antonio Spurs 114-95 last night to end the series in five games. It was their first trip to the playoffs in five years.

Meanwhile, the 76ers beat the Celtics to stave off elimination and force a Game 6 in Philly tomorrow, while the Knicks topped the Hawks to take a 3-2 series lead heading to Atlanta tomorrow.

Coming up tonight, the 8th-seeded Magic have a chance to finish off their series against the top-seeded Pistons and the Lakers are looking to close out the Rockets.

Meanwhile, the Cavs and Raptors are each looking for an edge up with the series tied at two games apiece.
