Ski to Sea News

Whatcom County’s biggest event of the year is coming up this weekend.

KGMI will be broadcasting the start and finish of the 2026 Ski to Sea race on Sunday. Dianna Hawryluk and Joe Teehan will be on Mount Baker for the start of the race from 7 am to 9 am.

After that, we’ll be airing updates throughout the race before The Zone’s Allan Fee and Jason Upton come to you live from the finish line at Marine Park starting at 1 pm.

The field for first place is wide open, with the four-time defending champion Birch Equipment not participating this year.

Spectators won’t be able to watch the transition from bike to canoe this year, as Riverside Park is closed to onlookers due to flood recovery efforts. The best spots to watch the race are at Hovander, Zuanich and Marine parks.

The weather’s looking nice for the Fairhaven afterparty on Sunday, cloudy with a high of 64 in Bellingham.

Mariners News

The Mariners are back tonight for the start of a six-game road trip.

They’re opening up in Kansas City with a three-game series against the Royals.

The M’s will look to get revenge for their series at T-Mobile Park earlier this month where they got swept. But the struggling Royals have lost nine of their last 10 games amid a freefall towards the bottom of the American League standings.

The Mariners could make a run at the top of the AL West this weekend, as they sit 2.5 games behind the Athletics. Coverage begins at 3:30 and first pitch is at 4:40 on KPUG.

It comes as the team reinstated Victor Robles from the injured list and optioned Connor Joe back to Triple-A Tacoma.

Meanwhile, the Mariners’ latest first round picks are going head-to-head in a minor league matchup tonight.

Third overall 2025 draft pick Kade Anderson is on the mound for Double-A Arkansas against 2024 first-round pick Jurrangelo Cijntje. The Mariners dealt Cijntje to the Cardinals this past offseason as part of a three-team trade for Brendan Donovan.

The 21-year-old Anderson has been dominating hitters to start the season, leading the Texas League with a 1.85 ERA through seven starts while striking out nearly half of the batters he’s seen.

NBA/NHL Playoffs News

The NBA playoffs continues tonight with a major matchup in San Antonio.

The Spurs and Thunder are each looking to get a leg up in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. Meanwhile, the Knicks dusted the Cavs last night to take a 2-0 lead as the series heads to Cleveland tomorrow.

Over in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Golden Knights are looking to extend their series lead over the Avalanche in Game 2 in Denver tonight.

The Canadiens dominated the Hurricanes 6-2 last night to open the East Finals.

The state baseball tournament is getting underway tomorrow, with a local matchup here in Bellingham.

3rd-seeded Lynden Christian is playing Naches Valley at Joe Martin Field in the opening round of the 1A tourney. First pitch is at 1 pm and if they win, they’ll have another quarterfinals matchup later in the day.
