Seahawks News

The Seahawks are flying high days after winning their second Super Bowl in franchise history.

Sam Darnold and Kenneth Walker III celebrated the big win at Disneyland yesterday, while head coach Mike Macdonald made an appearance on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

The team’s Super Bowl Championship Ceremony takes place at 10 am tomorrow at Lumen Field before the parade kicks off at 11.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks’ Super Bowl-winning offensive coordinator has officially hit the road.

The Las Vegas Raiders announced Klint Kubiak as their new head coach last night. ESPN reports that he’ll get a five-year contract.

Kubiak helped flip the Seahawks from the 14th-highest scoring offense in the league to 3rd in his first season in Seattle. He’ll now replace Seahawks legend Pete Caroll as head coach of the Raiders, who finished the season with the worst record in the NFL.

Winter Olympics News

Western Washington University alum Breezy Johnson continued her successful start to the Olympics.

She won her second downhill event of the Winter Games earlier today, but shockingly didn’t earn a medal. Her partner struggled in the second leg of the event and failed to hold the lead, dropping the United States off the podium.

It came two days after Johnson won the US’s first medal of the Olympics, taking gold in the downhill event on Sunday.

Elsewhere around the Olympics today, Ben Ogden helped break America’s 50-year men’s cross country skiing medal drought.

The US women’s hockey team beat Canada 5-0 behind a pair of goals from Seattle Torrent star Hannah Bilka. The team has now clinched first place in Group A and swept their four preliminary-round matches by a combined score of 20-1.

Norway leads the world with 12 medals as of Tuesday afternoon, while the US ranks 4th with seven.

2026 FIFA World Cup News

The City of Bellingham has announced the locations for the World Cup Fan Zone this summer.

Trackside Beer Garden by Kulshan Brewing will show games on Bellingham’s waterfront and The Den and Wild Buffalo will host a Block Watch Party on Commercial Street.

In addition to the watch parties, 15 local businesses were selected as designated fan zone venues.  Bars, breweries and coffee shops across the city will show games throughout the tournament.

And if that’s not enough, eight organizations and non-profits will host soccer-themed events. Soccer night with the Bellingham Bells, kayak soccer, children’s activities and Free Fan Zone Fridays at Whatcom Museum are all on the docket.

The 2026 World Cup runs from June 11 to July 19 at stadiums in Canada, Mexico and the United States. The USMNT kicks off the tourney against Paraguay on Friday, June 12.

WWU Vikings News

Western’s ice hockey team just capped off one of its best seasons in school history.

The Viks earned their first-ever PAC-8 playoff win when they beat San Jose State 7-3 on Friday. Western ultimately fell to the UW 5-3 on Saturday and the Huskies went on to win the tournament championship.

But, despite falling short in the tournament, the Viks improved from 5-16 last season to finish 24-8 this year.

Sophomore forward Andrew Fan received an All-Conference 1st Team nod in his first season with the team.

HS Basketball News

High school basketball is back on the radio tonight for the 1B boys district championship.

Lummi Nation is hosting its rival Tulalip Heritage in the third matchup of the season between two of the top teams in the state. Coverage begins at 6:45 and tipoff is at 7:00 on KPUG with Rick Todd and Jason Upton on the call.

Meanwhile, the Lummi girls are hosting Concrete in their own district championship at 5:15.

Both Blackhawks teams have already clinched a spot in the tri-district tournament next week.

The 2A district tournament tipped off last night in Whatcom County.

The Bellingham boys beat Marysville-Pilchuck 66-59 behind 28 points from senior Joe Harward. The Bayhawks now move on to face top-seeded Lynden in the district quarterfinals tomorrow night.

The Bellingham girls are up now, as they also host Marysville-Pilchuck in the district play-in with the winner advancing to face Lynden. Tipoff is at 6:00 from Bellingham High School.
