The Seahawks have found their next play caller on offense.
ESPN reports that Seattle is expected to hire former 49ers tight ends coach and run game coordinator Brian Fleury as their new offensive coordinator. Fleury has spent the past seven seasons with the Niners and coached alongside former Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak in 2023.
Kubiak recently signed a deal to become the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. He also tapped former Seahawks quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko as his non-playcalling OC in Vegas.
Winter Olympics News
The United States is falling behind in its race for Olympic supremacy. The US is still in third place, but has dropped to nine medals behind first-place Norway in the Winter Games.
The US women’s hockey team blanked Sweden 5-0 earlier today to book a ticket to the world championship, where they’ll face Canada on Thursday for an Olympic gold.
Meanwhile, the US men’s hockey team dusted Germany 5-1 yesterday to advance to the quarterfinals, where they’ll face the winner of Sweden vs. Latvia on Wednesday.
Elsewhere in Milan, controversy is swirling around curling. The Canadian men’s and women’s teams, as well as the British men’s team, have now been accused of the same infraction: double-touching the curling stone after it is released.
It comes as Canada, a historic curling powerhouse, finds its ego bruised. Its mixed doubles team didn’t even play for a medal, and the women’s team can’t afford to lose more matches if it wants to reach the medal round.
HS Flag Football News
The state’s first-ever high school flag football championship is coming home to Whatcom County.
The Lynden girls beat Squalicum 21-7 on Saturday to win the combined 1A and 2A state title in the sport’s inaugural season. It capped off an undefeated year for the Lions that saw them go a perfect 18-0.

It was a successful weekend for Western basketball as both teams hit the home stretch of the season.
The Vikings men beat 18th nationally ranked Saint Martin’s 90-81 on Senior Night at Carver Gym on Saturday.
Western trailed most of the game and found themselves down eight with just under 6 minutes left, but rallied to help snap their three-game skid. Freshman Dennis Johnson III led the team with 19 points while playing the entire game.
Meanwhile, the Western women doubled up Alaska Fairbanks 60-28 to win their fifth straight game. The Viks set a program record by allowing the fewest points in a GNAC game.

Taking a look at high school basketball scores from over the weekend…
The Lynden boys beat Lakewood 61-46 on Friday in the 2A district semifinals. The Lions now advance to face Anacortes in the district championship on Thursday, after the Seahawks beat Sehome 66-57.
The Squalicum boys edged Archbishop Murphy 54-50 in overtime to keep their season alive. The Storm and Mariners are now playing separate loser-out games in the consolation bracket tonight.
Over in the boys 1A district tournament, Lynden Christian beat Blaine 66-54 and Nooksack Valley beat Meridian 65-61. The Lyncs and Pioneers will meet in the district title game tomorrow, while the Trojans and Borderites will face off in a loser-out game on Friday.
Turning to the girls 1A district tourney, Lynden Christian beat Meridian 66-28 and Nooksack Valley beat Mount Baker 56-47. The Lyncs and Pioneers girls will face off in the district championship tomorrow, while the Trojans and Mountaineers play in a loser-out game.
And in the 2A girls tournament, Lynden blew by Sehome 64-20 in the district semis Saturday to earn their 70th straight win and move on to the title game. There, they’ll face Archbishop Murphy on Thursday after the Wildcats handled Squalicum 63-25.
The Storm and Mariners are now playing separate loser-out games in the consolation bracket tonight.
Meanwhile, the Bellingham boys and girls each had their seasons ended in losses to Burlington-Edison and Lakewood, respectively. The Ferndale girls also packed their bags after a loss to Edmonds-Woodway in the 3A district tourney.
Coming up tonight, it’s win or go home for both the Sehome and Squalicum boys and girls.
The Squalicum boys are taking on Lakewood at 5:30 at Mount Vernon High School. After that, the Sehome boys play Burlington-Edison there at 7:30.
The winners of those two games will play each other for third place in the district tournament later this week with a spot in the district crossover on the line, while the losers have their seasons come to an end.
Meanwhile, the Sehome girls are playing Anacortes at 5:30 at Lynden High School. After that, the Squalicum girls take on Lakewood there at 7:30.
It’s the same stakes as the boys games, as the Storm and Mariners could be playing each other for a spot at state on both the boys and girls sides.
