SEAHAWKS NEWS
Pete Carroll’s much-anticipated return to Seattle ended in a draw last night.
The Seahawks played Carroll’s Las Vegas Raiders to a 23-23 tie at Lumen Field in their first preseason game.
The Seahawks’ Jalan Gaines blocked the Raiders’ 55-yard field goal attempt as time expired to avoid the potential loss.
Most of Seattle’s starters did not play, but we did get a first look at several rookies, including third-round quarterback Jalen Milroe.
He replaced Drew Lock in the second half and went 6 of 10 for 61 yards and ran for 38 more.
First-year receiver Tory Horton led the team with three receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown.
Second-year running back George Holani was one of the other stars of the night, rushing for 61 yards and a touchdown.
He got a scare at the end of his touchdown run when he took a stiff arm from Marshawn Lynch, who was on the sideline as a credentialed photographer.
Raiders starting quarterback and former Seahawk Geno Smith played the opening series of the game, completing one of three passes for 15 yards.
The Seahawks play their next preseason game at home against the Kansas City Chiefs next Friday night.
MARINERS NEWS
It’s Ichiro Weekend at T-Mobile Park.
The Mariners are celebrating the newest member of Cooperstown by hosting a frenzy of special events and giveaways.
The first 20,000 fans at tonight’s game will get a 2004 replica jersey from the night he set the MLB single-season hit record.
The M’s will formally retire Ichiro’s No. 51 jersey tomorrow during a special pregame celebration.
And the first 20,000 fans to Sunday’s game will get a chance to take home a replica of his Hall of Fame plaque.
It comes as the Mariners are capping off their recent homestand with a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The M’s have won four straight games after a walkoff hit by Dom Canzone helped them sweep the White Sox yesterday.
They’ve pulled within a game and a half of the first-place Houston Astros in the AL West, now making it the closest division race in the MLB.
Meanwhile, manager Dan Wilson says first baseman Josh Naylor left yesterday’s game against the White Sox because of shoulder soreness.
He’s currently listed as day-to-day.
Luis Castillo will look to get Ichiro Weekend off to a strong start tonight in Game 1 against the Rays.
Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.
Bryce Miller struggled in his second rehab start last night.
He gave up four runs off through three and two-thirds innings with Triple-A Tacoma, including three home runs.
Miller still seems to be growing closer to a return to the Mariners; he’s expected to throw one or two more rehab outings before making it back to the rotation.
He’s been out since June 6 with elbow inflammation.
BELLS NEWS
The Bells’ journey to the West Coast League Championship begins tonight.
The team’s in Wenatchee for the first match of their best-of-three series against the AppleSox.
Bellingham and Wenatchee split their season series, each taking three games.
Stanford junior Trevor Moore is expected to make the start for the Bells tonight in their first game of the WCL Playoffs.
He had success in his last outing against the AppleSox, throwing five shutout innings in the Bells’ 5-1 win on Aug. 1.
The Bells are hosting a watch party for tonight’s game at Aslan Brewing Co. starting at 6 pm.
No matter what happens tonight, the Bells will be back home at Joe Martin Field tomorrow for Game 2, that first pitch is at 6:35.
If Game 3 needs to be played, it would take place at Joe Martin on Sunday at 6:35.
STORM NEWS
The Storm are in Sin City tonight for a game against the Las Vegas Aces.
It will be All-Star guard Brittney Sykes’ first game since she was traded from the Washington Mystics earlier this week.
She’ll look to help the Storm snap their three-game skid.
Seattle and Vegas own the exact same record at 16-14, tied for third-place in the Western Conference.
But the Aces are heating up, having won four of their last five.
Tonight’s game tips off at 7:00.
