Pete Carroll and Geno Smith are returning to Seattle tomorrow night for the Seahawks’ first preseason game of the year. Seattle’s hosting the Las Vegas Raiders in Pete Carroll’s first return to Lumen since being let go after the 2023 season.
Carroll is the Seahawks’ all-time winningest coach after leading the team from 2010 through 2023. He took over as head coach of the Raiders over the offseason and later reunited with Geno Smith when Seattle traded him to Vegas.
While Carroll hasn’t ruled out playing any of his starters, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald says only his rookie starters will make it onto the field.

The Mariners are looking to clinch their series against the White Sox tonight following a powerful offensive display.
Eugenio Suarez hit his first home run since returning to Seattle and the M’s beat the Sox 8-3 in their series opener. Dominic Canzone and Josh Naylor added two more homers to back up seven innings of one-run ball by Bryan Woo.
The Mariners have four wins in their last five games as they’ll look to keep it up in Game 2 tonight with George Kirby on the mound. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.
Mariners fans received some key injury updates yesterday.
General manager Justin Hollander told reporters yesterday that outfielder Victor Robles will begin a rehab assignment on Aug. 12. He’s been out since early April after fracturing his shoulder.
Hollander says Robles is “way ahead of schedule” and expects him to take at least 40 to 50 at-bats before returning to the majors.
Meanwhile, starting pitcher Bryce Miller will make his second rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma tomorrow. He made his first appearance last Friday, where he gave up one hit and struck out six over four shutout innings.
Miller is expected to make one more rehab start after tomorrow’s outing before returning to the majors.
Bells News
The Bells are finishing up their regular season with a rubber match against the Nanaimo NightOwls tonight.
Bellingham edged Nanaimo 3-2 in Game 2 last night thanks to a bases-loaded double by Logan Degroot in the fourth inning that scored all three of the team’s runs. All-Star starter Preston Watkins threw three scoreless innings and struck out five. The NightOwls eventually strung together a pair of runs to set up a potential ninth-inning rally, but Bells reliever Tyler Biddinger went 1-2-3 through their lineup to help tie the series for Bellingham.
The Bells now sit a game behind Edmonton for first place in the North Division standings. They could clinch home-field advantage throughout the first two rounds of the playoffs with a win tonight and a loss by Edmonton.
First pitch for tonight’s game against Nanaimo is at 6:35 from Joe Martin Field. And be sure to stick around for the post-game fireworks.
The Bells will play their first game of the playoffs on Friday, likely against Wenatchee.
Storm News
The Storm fell to the Minnesota Lynx 91-87 last night for their third straight loss. Seattle held an 8-point lead at halftime, but the Western Conference-leading Lynx took over in the second half to secure the road win.
Nneka Ogwumike led the Storm with 23 points and Dominique Malonga added 12 points off the bench.
Seattle will look to snap its losing streak on Friday night when the team travels to Las Vegas to play the Aces.
Sounders News
The Sounders are hosting Tijuana tonight in their final opening-round match of the Leagues Cup. The tournament features Mexico’s 18 Liga MX clubs and 18 teams from the MLS.
The Sounders need to get a result tonight to make sure they’re one of the four MLS teams that advance to the tournament quarterfinals. They’re unbeaten in their last eight games.
Tonight’s match begins at 8:00.
Youth Sports News
One of Whatcom County’s top little league baseball teams is off to nationals.
The Whatcom Prep 14U team left for Hot Springs, AR today, where they’ll represent the Pacific Northwest in the Babe Ruth World Series. The tournament begins tomorrow and runs through the 17th.
The team thanked the community after reaching its fundraising goal to make the trip over to Arkansas.
