Mariners News

The Mariners are looking to rebound tonight after a rough start to their homestand.

The M’s are hosting the Atlanta Braves for the start of their three-game series, fresh off a sweep at the hands of the Kansas City Royals.

The M’s fell by one run in a high-scoring affair on Friday before coming up just short again in 10 innings on Saturday. Emerson Hancock highlighted the game by tossing 14 strikeouts through seven innings, the most of any MLB pitcher so far this season. But the M’s fell again in a 4-1 loss yesterday where their offense managed just four hits.

Cal Raleigh is out of the lineup for the third straight game tonight after he says he tweaked his right side in Friday’s game.

Logan Gilbert will be on the mound as he looks to help the Mariners snap their three-game skid. He’ll be going up against Braves rookie starter and former Bellingham Bell JR Ritchie, who attended Bainbridge High School.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

Meanwhile, a Mariners legend is getting a monumental honor.

The team announced over the weekend that Randy Johnson will be immortalized with a statue at T-Mobile Park next year.

The announcement came the same day that the Big Unit’s No. 51 was retired in a  special pregame ceremony Saturday, making him the fourth Mariner ever to receive the honor.

MLB News

An iconic baseball broadcaster has passed away.

The New York Yankees announced today that John Sterling died at the age of 87.

Sterling was the theatrical radio voice of the Bronx Bombers for parts of 36 seasons and five World Series titles. He also came out of retirement to call Yankees games during the 2024 postseason.

Sounders/Reign News

It was a subdued weekend for Seattle’s pro soccer teams.

The Sounders played Sporting Kansas City to a 1-1 draw on the road Saturday. Paul Rothrock scored an early goal, but SKC fought back to force the tie, which still extended the Sounders’ unbeaten streak in MLS play to eight games.

Meanwhile, the Reign played the Houston Dynamo to a scoreless draw Friday night.

NBA/NHL Playoffs News

We’re into the second round of the NBA and NHL playoffs.

The 76ers are playing the Knicks in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals tonight after Philly beat Boston in Game 7 Saturday. The Timberwolves are also playing the Spurs in the opening match of their Western Conference semifinals series.

The Pistons and Cavaliers are facing off in the East tomorrow after each winning their Game 7’s yesterday, while the Lakers and Thunder battle in the West.

Over in the NHL, the Canadiens edged the Lightning in a Game 7 yesterday to advance to face the Sabres.

Coming up tonight, the Flyers are playing the Hurricanes and the Ducks are taking on the Golden Knights.

WWU Vikings News

Western’s men’s rugby team is national champs.

The Vikings beat Iowa State 19-13 in Indianapolis yesterday to win the Division 1-AA title game.

It was the program’s first ever national title for 15s.

Prep Boys Soccer News

The spring prep sports postseason is kicking off tonight with a loser-out match.

Mount Baker and Nooksack Valley’s boys soccer teams are facing off in the opening game of the 1A district tournament.  The winner will move on to play Meridian in the semifinals, while the loser has their season come to an end.

The match starts at 7:00 from Blaine High School.
