The Mariners beat the Houston Astros this afternoon to cap off a dominant series sweep.
Seattle topped their division rivals 6-2 at T-Mobile Park to earn their fourth straight win. Josh Naylor broke out of his early-season slump to hit a pair of home runs and George Kirby threw nearly eight innings of two-run ball to complete the sweep.
The Mariners entered the series having lost five straight amid severe struggles at the plate. But they combined to score 29 runs across the four-game series as their offense got its mojo back against an Astros pitching staff that ranks among the worst in the majors.
The M’s will look to keep it up when they hit the road for a three-game series in San Diego starting tomorrow. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG with Bryan Woo taking the mound.
Kraken News
The Kraken have been officially eliminated from playoff contention.
Seattle beat the Calgary Flames 4-1 on Saturday. Jordan Eberle scored his team-leading 26th goal of the season and Matty Beniers added his 20th as the Kraken’s offense exploded.
But with the LA Kings’ win over the Oilers that same day, the Kraken were mathematically eliminated from the postseason. It’s the third straight year they’ve missed the playoffs.
They’re now gearing up for their final home game of the season tonight against the Kings. Coverage begins at 6:00 and puck drops at 6:30 on KPUG.

Rory McIlroy joined more elite company at the Masters yesterday in Augusta, GA.
He pulled away with a pair of birdies and, as usual, saved a little drama for the end before taking his place in Augusta National history as only the fourth back-to-back champion.
There were a few dicey moments, but he shot a 1-under 71 for a one-shot victory to join Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods as repeat winners.
Scottie Scheffler finished just a shot behind him in second place.
Storm News
The Storm have locked down one of their top players to a record deal.
The team announced yesterday that it’s resigned center Ezi Magbegor to a three-year deal. The Storm didn’t disclose the details of their contract, but Her Hoops Stats reports that it’s worth $3.75 million in total, which would represent the richest in WNBA history.
The Storm have lost their top five scorers over free agency, including standouts Nneka Ogwumike, Stylar Diggins and Gabby Williams. But they plugged the hole by retaining their former All-Star in Magbegor, who led the league in blocks last season while earning all-defensive second-team honors.
The Storm also hold the No. 3 overall pick in tonight’s draft.

Western’s acclaimed rowing program had a successful meet over the weekend.
The Vikings won four out of five races against the University of Puget Sound at the Viking Invitational on Lake Samish Saturday. The newly constructed bridge on the north end of the lake gave fans a chance to cheer for the crews as they finished the race near Samish Park.
It was the third meet of the season for the 2nd-nationally ranked Viks.
