Mariners News

The Mariners are looking to get their mojo back tonight in their return to T-Mobile Park.

They’re hosting the Texas Rangers in the first of a three-game series.

Seattle was just swept by the San Diego Padres last night, falling 5-2 on the road for their third straight loss. The Padres scored four runs off Luis Castillo in the third inning and the Mariners responded with a pair of runs in the sixth, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the sweep.

The M’s top of the order did plenty of work with Brendan Donovan and Cal Raleigh each picking up a pair of singles, though the rest of the team combined for just three hits.

They’ll now look to get revenge against a Rangers team that swept them in Arlington just last week. Logan Gilbert will be on the mound against Jacob deGrom in a high-level pitching matchup tonight.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

MLB News

Speaking of the Padres, they’re on the verge of setting a record sale.

ESPN reports that the family of late Padres owner Peter Seidler is nearing a sale of the team for $3.9 billion to Chelsea Football Club co-owner Jose Feliciano.

If it goes through, it would easily top the previous record of $2.4 billion paid by Steven Cohen for the New York Mets in 2020.

The family of late owner Peter Seidler put the Padres up for sale in November and will soon end a 14-year ownership tenure.

Kraken News

The Kraken’s rocky season ended with a whimper last night.

They fell to the Colorado Avalanche 2-0 on the road in their final game of the season.

Seattle finished its schedule having lost 13 of its final 16 games amid what was once a dead heat for the playoffs. Instead, they’ll be watching it all from home for the third straight season.

They finished the year with a 34-37 record with 11 overtime losses in head coach Lane Lambert’s first year at the helm. It was the sixth-worst record in the NHL.

The Kraken will learn what draft pick they get at the May 5 lottery, where they have a 7.5 percent shot at the first overall pick.

NBA/NHL News

The playoffs are kicking off this weekend in both the NBA and the NHL.

There will be three NHL playoff games and four NBA playoff games tomorrow in a loaded Saturday slate.

In the NBA, the Oklahoma City Thunder are looking to repeat as champs as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. But reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and OKC are facing stiff competition from other MVP candidates in Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs and Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.

Over in the Eastern Conference, the Detroit Pistons own the No. 1 seed after their meteoric rise from sitting at the bottom of the league standings just two years ago. Plenty of other teams pose a major threat to knock them off including the Boston Celtics, who just got star forward Jayson Tatum back from a nearly year-long Achilles injury.

Meanwhile in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the field is wide open after the 2x defending champion Florida Panthers missed the postseason. Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are looking to make it back to the championship for a third straight year.

The Colorado Avalanche finished with the best record in the league and own the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, while the Carolina Hurricanes sit at the top of the East.

Seattle Sports News

Seattle sports’ biggest power couple is no more.

Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe announced today that they’re separating in a joint statement issued on social media.

The two announced their engagement back in October 2020 as two of the state’s best-known sports icons.

Bird played all 19 seasons of her legendary career with the Seattle Storm, helping them win four WNBA championships. Rapinoe, who played for the Seattle Reign, became a leading figure for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team during the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

They said in the statement that the decision wasn’t easy, but was made with much love, respect and care for one another.
