Mariners News

The Mariners are looking to build on yesterday’s historic night in their final game against the Colorado Rockies. The M’s thumped the Rockies 9-2 last night to secure their first AL West division title since 2001.

Cal Raleigh hit his major league-leading 59th and 60th home runs of the season to lead the offensive outburst. He has a chance to break the American League record of 62 homers with four games left in the season.

Julio Rodriguez, Jorge Polanco and Eugenio Suarez each hit solo shots as well to help the Mariners win for the 16th time in 17 games. Luis Castillo backed them up with seven and one-thirds innings of one-run ball.

The M’s will look to secure the series sweep and win their seventh-straight tonight with Emerson Hancock taking the mound against the Rockies.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KGMI.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks are back tonight as they kick off Week 4 of the NFL season with Thursday Night Football. The Hawks are down in Arizona for a game against their division foe Cardinals.

The two teams own identical 2-1 records and a win would boost the Seahawks up to second place in the NFC West standings.

Seattle has dominated the series in recent years, winning seven straight since 2021. They have some big names coming back too, with Pro Bowl defensive backs Devon Witherspoon and Julian Love set to make their return tonight after missing last week’s game.

Coverage begins at 3:00 and kickoff is at 5:15 on KPUG.

HS Football News

There’s also Thursday Night Football taking place right here in Whatcom County. Ferndale is hosting Mount Vernon tonight to kick off Week 4 of the prep football season.

The Golden Eagles have won back-to-back games after falling to Lynden in their season-opener. They’ll look to make it three straight against a Bulldogs team that’s coming off a tight loss to Burlington-Edison.

Kickoff is at 7:00 from Ferndale High School.

Meanwhile, the Zone’s Friday Night Lights will be live from Lynden High School tomorrow for Lynden vs. Anacortes in a matchup of the top 2A schools in the state. We’ll also be broadcasting Lummi Nation’s game against Tulalip Heritage.

Friday Night Lights coverage begins at 3:00 on KPUG and will be simulcast on KBAI starting at 6. Both games kick off at 7.

Bells News

The Bellingham Bells have launched a new organization to make sports more accessible in Whatcom County. The club announced the creation of the Bellingham Bells Community Foundation earlier this week.

The non-profit will aim to strengthen the community by offering increased access and equitable opportunities for youth to play baseball and softball.  It plans to host fundraising events to offer scholarships, equipment donations and accessible programming to local baseball programs and players.

“Baseball and softball are more than just games, they are pathways to teamwork, confidence, and community,” said Stephanie Morrell, Bellingham Bells Community Foundation Executive Director. “The Bellingham Bells Community Foundation is committed to making sure all youth in Whatcom County have the opportunity to experience those benefits.”

You can find more information about the foundation on the Bells’ website.
