Mariners News

The Mariners are back at T-Mobile tonight to kick off a six-game homestand against the Kansas City Royals.

The M’s are coming off a successful Midwest road trip that saw them go 5-1. Tonight, they’ll have a chance to get back above .500 for the first time in over a month.

Meanwhile, the Royals have won five of their last eight after going on an eight-game skid that sunk them to the bottom of the AL Central, where they remain. But a good series this weekend could vault them near the top of the standings as they only sit 3.5 games behind first place.

Bryan Woo and the Mariners will look to hold them off in their series opener tonight. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

Meanwhile, Bryce Miller was impressive in his third rehab start last night, throwing four shutout innings for the Tacoma Rainiers while giving up just two hits.

Seahawks News

A former Seahawks star is thinking about calling it a career.

The Athletic reported today that Russell Wilson is in “deep discussions” to go into television. If he does so, CBS’s “NFL Today” Sunday pregame show is considered the favorite to land him.

It comes after the 37-year-old Wilson met with the New York Jets earlier this week about the possibility of backing up former Seahawks teammate Geno Smith.

Wilson made nine Pro Bowls and reached two Super Bowls with the Seahawks before he was traded to the Broncos in 2022.

Sounders News

One of the Sounders’ chief rivals could be on the move.

An investment group has come forward to buy the Vancouver Whitecaps and relocate them to Las Vegas.

The Whitecaps were put up for sale a little over a year ago, but no potential buyers had emerged publicly until now. The MLS has said it would evaluate all options for the future of the Whitecaps, including a possible move, amid a lease situation with its stadium that the league has called untenable.

The Sounders are back in action tomorrow morning for a road match against Sporting Kansas City at 11:30 am.

NBA/NHL Playoff News

The first round of the NBA and NHL playoffs is concluding this weekend.

We already have one Game 7 set after the 76ers beat the Celtics last night to set up a decisive matchup in Boston tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Knicks blew out the Hawks by over 50 points and a shorthanded Timberwolves team outlasted the Nuggets to each move on to the second round.

Coming up tonight, the Magic, Cavaliers and Lakers are each looking to advance in their Game 6’s.

Over in the NHL, the Canadiens, Sabres and Golden Knights are each playing Game 6’s tonight with a 3-2 series advantage.

The Ducks and Wild each won last night to move on to Round 2.

Prep Spring Sports News

A local matchup of top boys soccer teams in the state did not disappoint last night.

Squalicum and Sehome played to a 2-2 draw in their final game of the regular season.

It was the first game of the season where the Storm didn’t emerge victorious.  But they still locked up the Northwest Conference regular season title with a 15-0-1 record.

Both teams will return to action next Thursday for the start of the district tournament.

Meanwhile, the prep baseball and fastpitch softball regular seasons are each coming to a close this weekend.

Ferndale is hosting defending state champion Mount Vernon in baseball this evening as the Golden Eagles face a tough test against the top 3A team in the state by RPI.

Ferndale’s softball team is hosting Lynden Christian at 1 pm tomorrow in a matchup between two of the best teams in the Northwest Conference.

WWU Vikings News

Western’s softball team is wrapping up its regular season this weekend.

They’re on the road for a pair of doubleheaders against Western Oregon today and tomorrow.

The Vikings are still fighting to secure the regular season GNAC title, as they’re currently tied with Saint Martin’s for first place while owning the head-to-head tiebreaker.

They’ve already clinched a spot in the GNAC Championships tournament, which starts next Thursday in Ellensburg. But first they’ll aim to get redemption against a Western Oregon team that took three out of four games in their previous meeting.

You can tune in to Sports Saturday at 11 am tomorrow on KPUG to hear Vikings head coach Sheryl Gilmore give her take on their season as they head into the playoffs.
