Mariners News

The Mariners have the day off as they head back to Seattle, where they could clinch their first-ever World Series appearance.

The M’s stumped the Blue Jays 10-3 yesterday to take a 2-0 lead in the ALCS. Julio Rodriguez, Jorge Polanco and Josh Naylor all homered to lead the offensive explosion.

Logan Gilbert gave up two earned runs through three innings and the M’s bullpen followed with six innings of shutout ball.

The M’s will look to get a 3-0 series lead tomorrow with George Kirby on the mound before Luis Castillo makes the start in Game 4. The team also says Bryan Woo could be in play to start Game 5, if necessary.

Coverage for Game 3 begins at 4:00 tomorrow and first pitch is at 5:08 on KPUG.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers got a leg up over the Brewers in the NLCS last night. Blake Snell gave up just a single hit over eight shutout innings and Freddie Freeman hit a home run to lead Los Angeles over Milwaukee 2-1 in Game 1.

The Brewers nearly rallied in the bottom of the ninth when they loaded the bases down one run, but the Dodgers notched a strike out to end the game. The Brewers will look to even the series up tonight before traveling to LA.

Game 2 starts at 5:08 pm from Milwaukee.

Kraken News

The Kraken are back tonight as they kick off a six-game road trip. Seattle’s up North to face the Montreal Canadiens in their first away game of the season.

The Kraken are coming off an overtime win over Vegas to get their first 2-0 start in team history. They’ll look to make it three straight tonight over a Canadians team that owns a 2-1 record entering the match.

Puck drops at 4:00 on KPUG.

NFL News

The Bears edged the Commanders in a tight Monday Night Football matchup last night. Former 49ers kicker Jake Moody hit a 38-yard field goal as time expired to lift Chicago over Washington 25-24.

Caleb Williams shined in a duel between the top two picks from the 2024 draft, throwing for 250 yards and a touchdown and running in another score. On the other side, Jayden Daniels tossed three touchdowns for the Commanders, but threw a costly pick.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Falcons upset the Buffalo Bills 24-14 in the earlier game last night.

The Seahawks are next up on Monday Night Football, as they’re home for the Houston Texans next week.

UW Huskies News

The Huskies women’s basketball team could be in for a big year.

Washington placed just outside of the AP Top 25 in the preseason rankings released today. They received the 26th most votes in the country, just shy of earning a ranking.

Former Nooksack Valley standout Devin Coppinger will look to get an expanded role as she enters her sophomore season with the Dawgs.

WWU Vikings News

Meanwhile, the Vikings women’s basketball team is also earning preseason praise.

Western Washington University was picked to finish first in the GNAC in the conference’s preseason coaches poll. They just edged rival Central Washington for the top spot, topping them by a single point in the rankings.

Carmen Dolfo is entering her 35th season as the winningest coach in GNAC history. Her Viks boast plenty of homegrown talent, with former Lynden Christian stars Libby Stump and Demi Dykstra, as well as former Lynden standout Anna VanderYacht.
