NFL News

One of the longest-tenured coaches in the NFL is out of a job.

The Baltimore Ravens announced today that they’ve fired John Harbaugh after 18 seasons. His exit comes two days after the Ravens lost to the Steelers after missing a last-second field goal, which eliminated them for the playoffs for the first time since 2021.

The 64-year-old Harbaugh has the 12th most wins in NFL history and guided Baltimore to a Super Bowl title in 2012. ESPN reports that multiple teams with head coach openings are expected to pursue him.

Kraken News

The Kraken now sit just a point behind the division lead amid their current tear.

Seattle beat the Calgary Flames 5-1 last night to earn its seventh win in eight games.

They’re only a single point behind Vegas and Edmonton for first place in the Pacific Division. It’s a far cry from where they sat in mid-December, where they were only a point up from the worst record in the league.

The Kraken will look to keep it up tonight when they host the Boston Bruins in the first of a brief two game homestand. Coverage begins at 6:30 and puck drops at 7 on KGMI.

In Class 1A, Lynden Christian senior Eli Maberry was picked at quarterback. LC had five total selections, including junior Chris Kooiman at running back, senior Boyce Robertson at receiver, junior Kyler Sterk on the offensive line and junior Kaden Veldman at linebacker.

Mount Baker was next up with four selections, including senior running back Brice Cooper, senior defensive back Jett Ross and junior Kell Reardon on both sides of the line.

Meridian senior Daniel Larsen also made the cut at tight end.

Meanwhile, girls flag football is taking the state by storm. Squalicum and Ferndale are each participating in the Seattle Seahawks’ Girls Flag Takeover event tomorrow.

The Seahawks’ mascot, dancers and a surprise player will be at Everett Memorial Stadium at 4:00 before Squalicum kicks off against Jackson at 4:30. After that, Ferndale will take on Monroe at 5:30.

Each of the winning coaches will be featured on the Seahawks’ social media accounts, website and receive a financial donation to their school.
