The Mariners are on the brink of clinching a playoff appearance after sweeping their division rivals over the weekend.
Seattle beat the Houston Astros 7-3 last night to complete the road sweep and grow their lead in the American League West to three games with just six to go in the season. They now own the second-best record in the AL and could see a first-round bye after winning 14 of their last 15 games.
The M’s scored all seven of their runs in the second inning, when J.P. Crawford hit a grand slam and Cal Raleigh smacked his major league-leading 58th home run of the season. Cal made Mariners history earlier in the weekend when he hit homer No. 57 on Saturday to pass Ken Griffey Jr. for Seattle’s single-season record.
The Mariners have the day off today as they head back to Seattle for their final home stretch of the season. It starts tomorrow against the Colorado Rockies, who own the worst record in the majors. The M’s could secure a playoff berth with a win and a Yankees win over the White Sox.

The Seahawks put on a show at Lumen Field yesterday They beat the New Orleans Saints 44-13 to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Rookie receiver Tory Horton had a 95-yard punt return touchdown and caught another to help Seattle put up 38 points in the first half . It was the second-highest scoring half in franchise history.
Sam Darnold was lights out, finishing with the second-highest quarterback rating in a game in Seahawks history. Kenneth Walker III added a pair of touchdowns in the win.
The Seahawks now sit in a three-way tie with the Cardinals and Rams for second place in the NFC West, one game behind the 3-0 49ers. It’s a quick turnaround for the Hawks, who will travel to Arizona for a Thursday Night Football game against the Cardinals.
Meanwhile, Week 3 of the NFL season wraps up with a great matchup on Monday Night Football. The Baltimore Ravens are hosting the Detroit Lions in a meeting of high-octane offenses.

The Huskies reclaimed the Apple Cup with a definitive win over the Cougs on Saturday. Washington beat Washington State 59-24 in Pullman to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Demond Williams Jr. threw four touchdown passes and ran for another, and Jonah Coleman added three more scores to lead the Huskies’ offensive attack. They scored on every possession of the game.
Cougs senior quarterback Zevi Eckhaus started in place of redshirt sophomore Jaxon Potter, who threw three interceptions in their previous loss to North Texas. Eckhaus got picked off on his first drive and finished with two interceptions.
Wazzu will look to avoid dropping their third straight this weekend against Colorado State.
UW will put its 22-game home win streak on the line when it hosts #1 nationally ranked Ohio State.
Storm News
The Seattle Storm are in the market for a new coach. The team announced yesterday that Noelle Quinn will not return as head coach in 2026.
It came days after the Storm were bounced by the Las Vegas Aces in the opening round of the WNBA Playoffs.
Quinn played in the league from 2007 to 2018 and won a championship with Seattle in her final season. She became an assistant coach the following year before taking over as head coach early in 2021.
She finished with a 97-89 regular season record and 4-8 in the playoffs.
The WNBA postseason is still going strong, with Minnesota, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Indiana in the Final Four.
