WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The northern lights are returning to the night skies of Whatcom County this week.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center says that Whatcom County is in a prime position to see the aurora borealis on Oct. 9 and Oct. 10.

Most of Washington is in proximity of seeing the lights Oct. 9, barring any cloud coverage. The Oct. 10 forecast calls for the lights to be visible as far as southern Oregon.

Earlier this year, the northern lights produced an intense light show over Whatcom County as residents stayed out late to capture it on their camera. To see those photos, click here.
