WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Spring Chinook season is opening on the Nooksack River.

The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife announced that a section of the North Fork of the Nooksack is opening for hatchery spring Chinook on Saturday, May 23.

Fishing will be allowed from the Highway 9 Bridge to the yellow marker at the upstream side of Kendall Creek Hatchery property.

The season will last through June 30, though it could end earlier depending on catch counts. The minimum catch size is 12 inches with a daily limit of two, and all other salmon besides hatchery Chinook need to be released.

For more information on rules and regulations, pick up a physical copy of the state’s fishing rules pamphlet at your local tackle shop or visit the state’s website.
