SUDDEN VALLEY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Sudden Valley’s newly-renovated fire station is nearing its return to service after a more than two-year closure.
South Whatcom Fire Authority said its administrative offices have returned to Station 22 in Sudden Valley.
The station was closed in January 2024 after frozen pipes caused a massive water leak, damaging its walls, ceilings and electrical equipment.
Fire district leaders then decided to speed up their planned renovation of the building rather than make temporary repairs to briefly reopen the station ahead of the renovation.
The new facility will have several safety upgrades along with more functional spaces for 24/7 staffing, which the district said the old building was not designed for. South Whatcom expects their response personnel to move back into the station later this month as they enter the final stages of the project.
They’re planning to host a community open house once the renovation is complete.
