BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham’s newest park officially has a name.
The city’s Parks and Recreation Committee voted to approve the name Bakerview Meadows for the new park located off of E Bakerview Road. Earlier this year, the city requested for the public to suggest names for the planned park.
Peter Gill, the project manager for Bakerview Meadows’ master plans, said that the name couldn’t be more fitting:
“It is a beautiful open land mixed habitat area. It’s got about 20 acres of forest land and about 9 acres of open meadow/pasture area that’s been mowed and pastured for the past 60 years.”
The master plan for the 29-acre site was also presented to committee members Monday, Aug. 24, drawing from public input on what amenities should take priority. Trails, picnic shelters, playgrounds and ample parking are being included as part of the master plan.
About 3.5 acres is still being set aside on the property for future affordable housing. The city has already begun “Phase 0” of the plan, which focuses on the property’s maintenance and preparation for future trails.
A timeline for the other construction phases has not yet been announced.
