Mariners News

The Mariners are following one of their most thrilling wins of the season tonight in Game 2 against the Dodgers.

The M’s edged LA 7-6 last night thanks to a tiebreaking, two-run homer by Dom Canzone in the eighth inning. It was Canzone’s second home run of the night and Seattle’s fifth.

Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez also each went yard, along with Rob Refsnyder in his first game in over a month since coming off the injured list.

Luis Castillo gave up five runs over as many innings, but the M’s bullpen held the Dodgers largely silent from there.

Emerson Hancock is on the mound tonight as his name surfaces in trade rumors ahead of next Monday’s deadline. Coverage begins at 6:00 and first pitch is at 7:10 on KPUG.

Bells News

The Bells also had the long ball going for them in their series opener last night.

They topped the Marion Berries 14-6 in Salem, OR. Matt Churchill, Dillon Moss and KG Hattori all homered to back up seven scoreless innings from their bullpen.

It was the Bells’ third straight win as they continue to stay in the hunt for the second-half North Division championship.

They have a chance to clinch their final road series of the regular season tonight in Game 2 against the Berries. First pitch is at 6:35.

Storm News

The Storm’s woes continued last night.

They fell to the Indiana Fever 105-95 for their seventh straight loss. Fever All-Stars Catilin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell combined for 60 points as Indiana won their fourth straight.

Natisha Hiedeman led the Storm with a career-high 33 points on six 3-pointers.

A small crowd gathered outside Climate Pledge Arena before the game to both support Fever guard Sophie Cunningham and promote statewide initiatives which seek to bar transgender students from participating in girls’ athletics at Washington schools. It came after Cunningham voiced support for the issue in an ESPN article published last week.

WWU Vikings News

Western’s men’s basketball team is bringing in plenty of local talent this fall.

Vikings coach Tony Dominguez recently announced his eight-player incoming class for the upcoming season.

It includes former Sehome standouts Grant Kepley and Grey Garrison. The incoming juniors are cousins, with Garrison the son of Western women’s basketball coach Carmen Dolfo.

Kepley won GNAC Freshman of the Year while at Western and now returns after spending a year with the University of Montana. Garrison began his college career at Oregon State and played last season at Henderson State.

The Viks are also adding Skagit County standouts Ethan DeJong and Logan Heigert. DeJong is coming off a superb senior season with Sedro-Woolley that netted him Northwest Conference Player of the Year, while Heigert is a 2x All-Conference First Team selection out of Burlington-Edison.

The Vikings open their season in Ellensburg on Oct. 30.
