The Mariners ended their homestand with a tough series loss.
They fell to the Cincinnati Reds 5-3 this afternoon at T-Mobile Park.
Cal Raleigh got things going in the second inning with a single that scored Josh Naylor for the first run of the game. The Reds responded with a pair of runs in the fourth and the M’s took the lead right back thanks to a two-run single by Luke Raley.
But Cincinnati would have the final say, when All-Star first baseman Sal Stewart launched a 3-run homer off Eduard Bazardo in the seventh to put the Reds up two for good.
Emerson Hancock gave up two runs over six innings to earn the quality start in vain. With the loss, the Mariners fell back below .500 and now sit a game behind the Texas Rangers for first place in the American League West division.
They have the day off tomorrow before hitting the road for a four-game series against the Rangers.
MLB News
Across the American League, the Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 this afternoon to win their 15th straight game.
That matched a club record for the longest winning streak in team history from 80 years ago.
The Sox have a chance to break the record tonight in the second leg of a split doubleheader at Fenway Park. That game starts at 4:10.
Boston fired their manager, and former Astros coach, Alex Cora amid a rough start to the season, but they’ve now climbed to a wild card spot in the AL.
Bells News
The Bells are playing a rubber match at Joe Martin Field tonight.
Bellingham fell 7-4 last night as the Kelowna Falcons evened the series up at one game apiece. The Falcons scored three runs in the first and never trailed from there.
The Bells nearly rallied in the ninth, when they got two runners on with just one out and the tying run at the plate. But the Falcons turned a double play to spoil any hopes of a comeback.
Tyler Peshke, Bo Shinkle and Jaden Jackson each turned in multi-hit games for the Bells.
They’ll look to cap off their penultimate homestand of the regular season with a win tonight. First pitch is at 6:35.
Storm News
The Storm couldn’t snap their latest skid before the All-Star break.
They fell to the Minnesota Lynx 86-76 this afternoon to extend their losing streak to six games. Last year’s MVP runner-up Napheesa Collier led the Lynx with 24 points in her season debut after undergoing surgery on both ankles over the offseason.
Dominique Malonga paced the Storm with 21 points and four blocks to continue her stand-out sophomore season. Seattle now owns the worst record in the WNBA with six wins and 23 losses.
They have the next few days to regroup during All-Star weekend, where Natisha Hideman will compete in the 3-point contest on Friday and Dominique Malonga will play in the All-Star Game on Saturday.
The Storm will return from the break by hosting Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Tuesday.
Sounders News
The Sounders are trying to snap a skid of their own tonight. They’re on the road against Austin FC.
Seattle’s coming off a 5-1 loss to Portland in their first match back from the World Cup, which extended their losing streak to three matches.
Tonight’s match comes against an Austin club that’s also lost three straight. The game kicks off at 6:30.

The iconic former voice of the Seattle SuperSonics is looking for a new home.
Kevin Calabro told the Oregonian today that he won’t return to the Portland Trail Blazers’ broadcast team next season. His contract expired with the Blazers last month and he says the team’s offers for a new deal were “subprime.”
Calabro spent two decades with the Sonics before they relocated to Oklahoma City and then spent a decade in Portland after joining the Blazers in 2016.
