Mariners News

The Mariners are back tonight as they begin their final series of this road trip against the Brewers.

The M’s are coming off a pair of massive wins over Houston that pushed them within four games of the division-leading Astros. They now shift their attention to Milwaukee, who owns the best record in baseball.

The Brewers are returning home after besting the defending champion Dodgers three games to one in LA. They’re led by National League Cy Young favorite Jacob Misiorowski, who – thankfully for Mariners fans – won’t take the mound this series.

Time is ticking for Seattle, with just 37 games left in the season.

Bryce Miller is on the mound for tonight’s series opener. Coverage begins at 3:30 and first pitch is at 4:40 on KPUG.

Meanwhile, the team announced today that they’ll honor longtime broadcaster Rick Rizzs with a farewell weekend during their final series of the regular season. It takes place against the Los Angeles Angels from Sept. 25th through the 27th and includes a fireworks night, a special T-shirt and a first pitch thrown out by the voice of the Mariners himself.

The Mariners have also created a “Holy Smokes” Hotline where fans can leave a message for Rizzs by calling 206-346-4299.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks are still planning to sign former first-round cornerback Terrion Arnold, but it could take a while.

The NFL Network reports Arnold will be placed on the NFL commissioner exempt list when he signs, meaning he’d be ineligible to play or practice while the league looks into his case. The 23-year-old is facing eight felony charges stemming from a kidnapping and robbery in Tampa, Florida in February.

He’s agreed to a one-year, minimum-salary deal with Seattle. If he’s cleared to play, Arnold is projected to compete for the Seahawks’ No. 3 cornerback job.

The news comes as episode three of Hard Knocks is set to be released on HBO tonight. The show will be available to stream on HBO Max starting at 6:00 tonight and will air live on the HBO channel at 9.

Meanwhile, international expansion seems to be all but a certainty in the NFL.

Commissioner Roger Goodell told a German media outlet today that he has “no doubt” there will be NFL teams outside the US one day. Goodell went on to say that an international city could even serve as a Super Bowl host if it gets a team first.

The NFL voted earlier this year to play as many as 10 international games starting in 2027, up from eight previously.

Sports Media News

The co-founder of the largest platform in sports media has passed away.

ESPN announced today that Bill Rasmussen died at his Florida home from the effects of Parkinson’s disease at the age of 93.

Rasmussen is credited with conceiving of the initial idea of ESPN with his son Scott ahead of its launch as the world’s first 24-hour television network in 1979.

WWU Vikings News

Western’s volleyball team is earning nationwide recognition ahead of the season.

The Viks were ranked No. 20 in the D-II preseason coaches poll.

They’re coming off a 19-7 season where they made a run to the national tournament. Western has several key players returning for their senior season including outside hitter Delaney Speer, who earned honorable mention All-America honors last year.

They’ll have a chance to prove themselves early with their season opener coming against 4th nationally ranked Point Loma in Ellensburg next Thursday.
