Mariners News

The Mariners are back tonight for a crucial divisional showdown.

They’re kicking off a three-game series against their rival Astros in Houston. The M’s are coming off a 1-0 win over the Yankees yesterday that snapped their six-game skid.

They’ve dropped 15 of their last 21 games and now sit five behind the Astros for first place in the AL West. Seattle won six of their seven matchups earlier this season, but the surging Astros have shaped into one of the best teams in the AL since then, having WON 15 of their last 21.

Time is ticking to turn things around, as the Mariners only have 40 games left in the regular season.

George Kirby is on the mound for tonight’s series opener. Coverage begins at 4:00 and first pitch is at 5:10 on KPUG.

Meanwhile, the team placed rookie shortstop Colt Emerson on the 10-day injured list today with left wrist inflammation.

The team had originally planned to send him to Triple-A Tacoma, with utilityman Brock Rodden getting called up from the Rainiers to take his place in the infield.

The 21-year-old Emerson finished his first big-league season batting .190 with 8 home runs and 23 RBI in 69 games. We’re sure to see more of him for the foreseeable future after the Mariners inked him to an eight-year, $95 million extension in May.

A former Mariner and one of the last players to wear the No. 42 has passed away.

The New York Mets announced today that Butch Huskey died at the age of 54 due to a blood clot in one of his lungs.

Huskey hit 15 home runs in 74 games with the M’s in 1999 before he was traded to the Red Sox midseason.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks are playing their first game since their Super Bowl win this weekend.

They’re hosting the Dallas Cowboys tomorrow night in their preseason opener.

It will mark the return of former Mount Baker standout TJ Bass to the Pacific Northwest. The 2017 graduate from Deming is now entering his 4th season as an offensive guard with the Cowboys.

Tomorrow will be the first of three preseason games, and the only one being played in Seattle, before the Seahawks open their season at Lumen Field on Sept. 9.

Coverage for tomorrow’s game begins at 3:00 and kickoff is at 5 on KGMI.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks are bringing in a former first-round pick to bolster their secondary.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the team is signing former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold. The Lions released Arnold in late June after he was charged with eight felonies stemming from an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.

Arnold’s workout with the Seahawks was documented in Episode 2 of Hard Knocks Tuesday. He comes to Seattle after also visiting with the Texans, Saints and Giants.

Schefter says the NFL still has to decide whether to put Arnold on the Commissioner’s Exempt List in connection to the charges he faces.

Arnold was teammates with 3rd-string Seahawks quarterback Jalen Milroe for three years while at Alabama.

Storm News

The Storm are back tonight as they look to build on what little momentum they’ve had this season.

They’re hosting the Portland Fire in the second leg of their three-game homestand.

Seattle’s coming off a nine-point win over Chicago on Monday that avoided extending their 11-game losing streak to the longest in franchise history. They’re now facing a Portland team that’s fighting for a playoff spot in its first season since being added in the WNBA’s expansion.

The Storm, meanwhile, were the first and so far only team to be officially eliminated from the postseason.

Tonight’s game tips off at 7:00 from Climate Pledge Arena.
