The Mariners are back tonight after a rollercoaster ride of a weekend.
They’re hosting the Philadelphia Phillies for the first of a three-game series.
The M’s are coming off a series win over the Chicago Cubs that featured the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. They walked off the Cubs in each of the first two games, first with Leo Rivas in extras on Friday and then with Randy Arozarena on Saturday.
Arozarena played arguably his best game as a Mariner in that Saturday win, hitting two home runs and robbing the Cubs of one in left field.
Saturday also featured the big-league debut of top prospect Kade Anderson, who gave up three runs and struck out five through five and two-thirds innings.
But that momentum came to a halt yesterday, when the M’s got throttled by the Cubs 19-2. Coming just days after their 22-0 loss to the Brewers, Bryce Miller became the first MLB pitcher in the modern era to have his team lose by 15-plus runs in back-to-back starts.
The Mariners will look to clean things up tonight against a red-hot Phillies team that’s riding a nine-game win streak. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG with Logan Gilbert on the mound.
Meanwhile, the team placed utilityman Brendan Donovan on the seven-day concussion injured list yesterday.
Donovan was a late scratch from Saturday’s game after he was hit in the head by a baseball in the batting cages. It continues an injury-riddled season for Donovan, who’s already missed over 70% of Seattle’s games with a groin strain.
Patrick Wilson was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to take his place on the Mariners’ active roster.

The Mariners’ division rivals just made a surprising late-season move.
The Houston Astros announced today that they’ve mutually agreed to part ways with general manager Dana Brown.
Brown had served as GM since 2023 and his contract was set to expire at the end of this season. Houston currently leads the AL West with a 65-66 record and are on track to finish with the worst record of any division winner in MLB history.
The Mariners made some headway in the division race over the weekend, now sitting three games behind the Astros.
Seahawks News
The Seahawks suffered a few losses over the weekend.
They fell to the Tennessee Titans 19-16 in their second preseason game yesterday.
Seattle opened with three straight scoring drives in the first quarter, but failed to score for the rest of the game. Jacardia Wright highlighted the loss with a 69-yard touchdown run and Elijah Arroyo added a 36-yard touchdown catch from Drew Lock.
But the game was overshadowed by the loss of rookie second-round safety Bud Clark. He left the game in an air cast after breaking his right ankle and head coach Mike Macdonald says he’ll miss “multiple months.”
The Seahawks play their final game of the preseason this Friday, when they travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs.
Storm News
The Storm suffered another rough loss last night.
They fell to the Dallas Wings 92-70. Sophomore sensation Paige Bueckers scored 32 points to help the Wings stay in the playoff picture.
Storm rookie Flau’jae Johnson made a career-high tying five 3-pointers and finished with 23 points.
The Storm remain at the bottom of the league standings with just six games left in the season. Next up, they’re back at home to face the Toronto Tempo on Wednesday.
Sounders News
The Sounders finally snapped their skid over the weekend.
They played FC Cincinnati to a 1-1 draw on Saturday to end their club-record eight-match losing streak in league play. Kossa-Rienzi scored off a pass from Albert Rusnak in the 83rd minute to force the tie.
Meanwhile, it was more of the same with the Reign, as they played the Kansas City Current to a 1-1 draw as well.
