SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A bridge next to the North Cascades Highway will be closed for a few weeks for construction beginning next month.
Skagit County spokesperson Jenn Rogers says that the Marblemount Bridge on Cascade River Road will be closed to all traffic from Sept. 2 through Sept. 16.
This includes emergency vehicles and pedestrians.
Rogers adds that the closure will allow crews to continue ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the aging bridge infrastructure.
Another 15-day closure is scheduled during the 2026 construction season and intermittent closures may also occur over the course of the project.
According to Rogers, the bridge is over 90 years old and currently under weight restrictions as well as only one lane.
Repairs made to the bridge will fix the failing paint system, corrosion and pack rust to metal elements, missing fasteners and leaking joints among other things.
Funding for this $18.5 million project comes from a Federal Highway Administration Local Bridge Program Selection under WSDOT in 2022.
