BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man is suspected of mortally wounding another man with a hammer at a home on Old Samish Road.

Bellingham Police say 36-year-old James Singleton called 911 at about 9 a.m. Thursday. He told dispatchers that he and the other man had been taking drugs on Tuesday and got into a physical fight and the man was barely breathing.

Officers arrived to find the man suffering blunt force trauma injuries and medics declared him dead at the scene.

Investigators later found a hammer believed to be connected to the assault on a trail to Arroyo Park. Officers arrested Singleton on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Police aren’t releasing the victim’s name at this time.
