BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man remains in custody after being accused of sexually assaulting a child in Bellingham.

Court documents state that the victim, who was a patient at Peacehealth St Joseph Medical Center, was waiting to use a restroom on May 19.

The 37-year-old suspect was unclothed when he opened the restroom door, grabbed the victim and assaulted them inside.

The child was assaulted a second time after attempting to use the same restroom some time later.

A nurse knocked on the door and staff were able to separate the two before police took the suspect into custody.

He’s currently being held at the Whatcom County Jail without bail, but court documents indicate that he has been ordered to undergo a competency evaluation.
