BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham’s most famous runaway cow has found a permanent home.
The Whatcom Humane Society says Mabel the cow arrived at her forever home on San Juan Island last Saturday (Aug. 9).
She’ll spend her days with her new cow family and other wildlife on 20 acres of forest land at the Heaven on Earth Animal Retirement Sanctuary.
My Bellingham Now previously reported that Mabel was less than a year old when she escaped from a trailer on Alabama Hill while being taken to an auction in August 2024.
She proceeded to evade the public for over two months before she was found and captured.
According to the Humane Society, Mabel’s original owner said he “washed his hands” of the situation and surrendered ownership to the organization.
